Green energy from photovoltaics
Around 2,300 solar modules on the Annaberg in Fürth will in future supply the uvex group, the Fürth-based family-owned company, with electricity for its own consumption.
Fürth, 19 September - Today, Lord Mayor Dr Thomas Jung, Michael Winter, Managing Partner and CEO of the uvex group, Georg Höfler, CFO/COO of the uvex group, and infra Managing Director Marcus Steurer presented the family-owned company's latest photovoltaic project: A 6,123-square-metre photovoltaic system with a total electrical output of 1,441 kilowatts peak on an 8,418-square-metre open space on Annaberg.
Around 90 per cent of the electricity generated will be used directly at the company site on Würzburger Straße; only ten per cent will be fed into the public grid. From an overall corporate perspective, the uvex group will be able to generate around 20 per cent of its current annual consumption at the Fürth site itself with the new plant. By way of comparison, the amount of electricity generated would theoretically cover the annual consumption of around 400 households with an average consumption of 3,500 kilowatt hours. In addition, around 530 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be saved annually, making a valuable contribution to a climate-friendly energy supply.
"The 'Am Annaberg' photovoltaic system, with its own power line to our plant at the Fürth headquarters around 430 metres away, is an important investment and a building block in a future-proof power supply," says Michael Winter. "But it is also a measure to make the site more competitive again to some extent due to the sharp rise in electricity prices in the past."
"Furthermore, it is another important step in keeping our ecological footprint as small as possible," adds Georg Höfler. "I am delighted that we were able to implement this project so successfully right on our doorstep on Würzburger Straße, despite the complex initial situation and requirements, thanks to the active support of all partners involved."
The city of Fürth is also pleased with the commissioning of the plant. Mayor Dr Thomas Jung says: "The climate-neutral restructuring of the economy is crucial to the successful protection of our climate. uvex is setting an example here and thus also strengthening the solar city of Fürth."
Throughout the entire project, it was particularly important to all parties involved to minimise the impact on the existing flora and fauna.
In order to completely rule out negative effects on nature, soil, glare and noise reports were prepared before construction work began. In addition, a special species protection assessment was carried out.
"Photovoltaic systems are a central component on the road to a more climate-friendly future," emphasises Steurer. He is all the more pleased that his company was responsible for the project from concept development and planning to final implementation and can now officially hand over the plant to its partner uvex group.
